I want to contribute
I include below a list of pending tasks for the Game Reference:

Visit Carcasonne Central forum, contribute to the community, gain their trust and prove you are worthy!
* Figure Reference: merging the CAR Figure reference (pages 205-206) <s>and the Summary of Figure Characteristics (pages 217-221) (Murphy013 working on this)</s>

What to put in WikiCarpedia
* Summary of Rule Sets and Changes (page 216): needs a new page and has to be updated for C2

WikiCarpedia is about facts. That means rules, variants, history, notable events, people and companies. House rules is as far as it goes beyond this, as long as they do not blur the whole picture and do not complicate it for the average player.
* Mega Carcassonne (pages 222-226): this can be dynamic too, and it contains a tile summary table that depends on the Tile Reference... so it has to wait until it is resolved.

There are many other places to look for things like strategy guides or news.
* Glossary (page 282-300): wolnic had a first attempt at this (Check his user pages). We have to check with him his next steps on this.

New/old edition separation
* English-German Dictionary (pages 301-307): To be done and updated for C2

At the time of WikiCarpedia creation, the New Edition (aka Carcassonne II) has already been 3 years on the market. There is now a large group of Carcassonne fans that have never played the old edition. A restart of the complete annotated rules (CAR) is in place, but keep in mind that not all players are interested in the long and complicated history of Carcassonne 1.
* <s>Scoring: A Historical Perspective (pages 308-311): To be done... this is mostly important to C1</s>

Naturally this approach means that a lot of things may have to be written twice (eg. Rules for main expansions). One of the benefits of this is that content regarding the old edition can have annotations that are not necessary for the new edition, while those for the new edition can have updated graphics and a more streamlined approach.
* Carcassonne Collections and Expansions (pages 312-315): To be updated and added.

I have a question/issue regarding particular page
* Expansion Checklist (page 316): To be updated and added.

Each page has the discussion tab. Go there and press edit. Put title in header tags and elaborate below it.
* Timeline releases (pages 317-326): This is replaced in some way by the Timeline + Variants page. I would check if any image can be added to the associated C1 expansion page.
For example:

The structure should be different
I think that we need to move faq segment before tile reference.

Do not forget to end your question with signature:
* Selected Variants (pages 327-329): To be added. Don't know if more variants have been proposed and could be added here, such as a couple of solo variants that were published on CarcC.

--~~~~

It looks like this:

Editing
* Feature reference: We were commenting some days ago of adding a section on describing features on a holistic way (so to speak)... and out of the blue we got this thread on CarcC that was a example of the same idea:

How to create new page
: Ecclesiastical Terms in Carcassonne

Please read the User's Guide. The easiest way is to click one of the red links on the main page - a red link means the page has not yet been created. You will be directed to the new page creation.
: It would not be a another glossary, but a feature reference that summarizes interactions, that are not normally located in one single place.

The recommended way to create a new page for Mediawiki is to create a link on an already existing page (consult user guide on how to make links) and then click it to be directed to the new page creation.

As any other page, except that this is allowed only to users promoted to administrators.
Main page structure
I would like to do some testing
My high level suggestion for C1/C2 is groping:
* Base game (by HiG)
* Major Expansions (by HiG)
* Minor Expansions (by HiG)
* Minor expansions by others (Spiel Doch, Spiel Box and other events,...)

Each user has their own page (eg User:msasinski) and associated discussion tab on which to try things out.
Don't see any problem either in grouping spin-offs in separate pages following the idea of Winter Edition.

You can go directly to it from your username by clicking on your username in the top right of any screen.
(To be completed by Sinscerly)

How to name pictures
Being under completion of Sinscerly :)

Please follow this convention when naming pictures for new edition:
My thoughts about the Mainpage being a Hub to deliver to all the different subpages. So main page would look the following

code_description.xxx

Main Page:
for old edition add C1 in the middle:
 > Carcassonne C2

code_C1_description.xxx

 > Carcassonne C1
 > Carcassonne Spin-offs
 > other relevant information and pages.

Code - It is up to you, but it should uniquely describe expansion and be recognizable. Use it consistently through the page.
So on the Carcassonne C2 page you can find anything related to C2. with the structure that is now on the main page.
Same for C1
Then we get to Spin-offs also as C2 and C1 but then winter has it's own subpage where all the mini's and base game for winter are.

Description - Up to you, but should be recognizable. If picture is for tile reference it may be simply 01, 02, 03 etc.
What is the point about this. Well it would be more clicking instead of scrolling, on mobile then. Also it could be maybe better visible.

How to insert pictures
Otherwise I would suggest:

Please read the User's Guide and be consistent with the rest of WikiCarPedia. Please check out Besiegers - Cathars - Siege page and how the images are inserted there.
Main page
C2
> base
> > abt
> > river
> expansions
> > exp 1
> > etc

For copyright reasons, any individual tile images (such as in Tile Distribution on Expansion pages) have to be no more than 120 pixels by 120 pixels.
C1
> base
> expansions
> > exp 1
> > etc

How to insert icons
Spin-offs
> Winter
> > Base Game
> > Gingerbread Man
> > Corn Circles ( I still don't get it, normal one are Crop Circles, right? and winter is called Corn Circles???....)
> other Spin-offs

Please refer to Icons page.
To put all expansions together, but don't know if that's good. I think the first suggestion is more clearer.

How to insert footnotes
I've come across several discrepancies in the text that I would like to discuss in order to see if we agree any action upon them. Some may come from the source material (the CAR mainly). This entry is about Expansion naming.

For example:
For some expansions we are using names that differ from the "official" ones used by the English publishers. We have some differences in capitalization, the use of And vs. &, and other cases. I included some examples comparing with ZMG:

The teacher meeple is placed on the school.

Text within ref tags will be put on the bottom. Add following text at the very end of the page, where there are footnotes (before translate tags):
Suggestion:
* Using the publisher-given name and stick to it when available.
* Verify if some other name has to be updated, checking references to translations for German.

Color coding the rules
Suggestion:
* Use a link in bold to provide a navigable cross-reference that stands out from the text.

Carcassonne 2 manual consists of color coded parts. How to use them:
Example:

Lorem ipsum The Expansion blah blah blah

The are three templates with appropriate colors:
* RulesPlacingTile
* RulesPlacingMeeple
* RulesScoring

How to create page in my language
The translation process may seem complicated at first, but believe me, it is not. Just read the following steps and try it once. If the page already have language selector, you can go directly to point 3.
* I do not get the point of this? So you just want it to stand out from text? Why?

# Create new page and fill it with english content
Self-references to a Expansions/Base game
# (THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT PART) put all the content in translate tags

I've come across several discrepancies in the text that I would like to discuss in order to see if we agree any action upon them. This entry is about self-references in a page.
<translate>
Fréttinga is a small municipality in MungoLand, located on the BaMungo island.
It hosts a population of about 400 people. It has some agriculture and fishing.
Tourists like to visit it in the summer time.
Services
It doesn't have many services. There is a shop and car ferry visits the island
from mainland once a day.
</translate>
Note that you don't need to add markers like
<!--T:1-->
.

# under the page title you can find link "mark this page for translation"
The CAR original text shows self-refereces to Expansions capitalized.
# language selector appears on top of the page
# follow link "translate this page" at the top, follow the easy wizard
# new language will be available in language selector after the translation

If the English version was changed after translation, the sentence "This page has changes since it was last marked for translation." appears at the top. Click "marked for translation" part and decide if you want to translate it again (since some new parts may have been added).
Suggestion:
* Use a link in bold to provide a navigable cross-reference that stands out from the text. In case of transcluded page, it MediaWiki will render a link in bold, otherwise name in bold as is.

Naturally every native speakers of their respective language are responsible for their approach to translation. Eg. names of expansions not officially translated to particular language can be translated on WikiCarPedia or not (address of the page still need to be kept in english).
Example:

If anything is unclear you can read extended manual.

Lorem ipsum Link to Self blah blah blah

How do I know what is left to translate
Lorem ipsum Link to Self blah blah blah

Visit Special:LanguageStats and choose your language code. Language code is case sensitive.

How translate links
--Meepledrone (talk) 14:50, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Castles in Germany

can be translated using label (polish example):

* What is the point of selfreferencing? --MajFrost (talk) 10:17, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
* Niemieckie Zamki

so the link to the correct page will be preserved.

Naming figures and features
How to translate footnotes heading
I've come across several discrepancies in the text that I would like to discuss in order to see if we agree any action upon them. This entry is about naming figures and features.

In English version you must use following template every time there are footnotes.

The CAR refers to the figures and features in lowercase or capitalized indistictively. For example: hill vs Hill.

In translation tool you need to change the name of the template. For example:
* Capitalizing or not figures and/of features

If there is no template in your language it need to be created.
I've come across several in the source material (the CAR mainly) that we could address in a revision of the text:

I am getting error when translating
* References to Publishers

Following error may occur:

Saving the translation failed: This namespace is reserved for content page translations. The page you are trying to edit does not seem to correspond any page marked for translation.
** Include original German names?
** Case: King, Robber and Consort

Just wait a minute or two and retry translation. There is a job running in the background modifying special translation subpages. Let it do his job.

Why English is first language for every page
* Naming consistency in C1:
 * cloister vs. monastery
 * Thief vs. highwayman
 * pennant vs. coat of arms
* References to the Abbot/Gingerbread Man in C1 expansions

Translation on WikiCarpedia is executed by use of the Translation plugin. This means that one language always needs to be first and it decides on general structure on the page. On Wikipedia.org every language version is a completely different page on different wiki site. Unfortunately this is complicated technically and requires a lot of resources.
-->

In the end if, for some reason, the given page structure is unacceptable for given translation, the original (English) page needs to be (carefully) reconstructed.

So again. Each page needs to be finished and accepted in the English language before commencing translation.

List of pages that have had an initial proof check - this page will contain a list of pages that have had a proof check in the English language. If you complete the initial edit of a page and consider you've done what you can with content, layout and images, please add it to the "To Be Checked" section with your name/sig using 4 tildes. If you are checking pages and complete a proof check, mark the page as checked
