Informations générales

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur On each C3.1 major expansion page, you will find a Quick Overview with helpful information about the respective game components. Sometimes, new figures are also included with the expansions. Most of these figures correspond to a certain type, which can be identified in the quick overview, too. This is often very helpful in determining the abilities of the individual figures based on the explicit wording in the rules.

For example, when the rules refer to meeple, this refers to all figures that correspond to the meeple type. Therefore the dragon from Dragon & Fée Dragon & Fée may remove standard meeples as well as any other meeples (and only meeples).

Here is a helpful list of all relevant figures sorted by their type:

Meeple standard :
Meeples :                             Pion inconnu Ringmistresses
Pions spéciaux :
Pions neutres :

Certains pions n’appartiennent à aucun type.

Ils permettent de suivre certaines progressions dans le jeu :

It should also be noted that not every figure standing in a city, on a road, a field, or monastery automatically takes on the type of a knight, traveler, farmer, or monk. This is only the case if it is explicitly mentioned in the rules.

For example, you may place the large meeple (Ext. 1 – Auberges & Cathédrales Ext. 1 – Auberges & Cathédrales) as a knight, traveler, farmer, or monk. Therefore you may assign the builder (Ext. 2 – Marchands & Bâtisseurs Ext. 2 – Marchands & Bâtisseurs) to the large meeple as well as the standard meeple. On the other hand, you may not assign the builder to the mayor (Ext. 5 - Maires & Messagers Ext. 5 - Maires & Messagers) because you may place the mayor in a city but not as a knight.
The scarecrow, as another example, you may not place as a farmer, but it may turn into one and then interact with barns (Ext. 8 - Ponts & Châteaux Ext. 8 - Ponts & Châteaux).

So paying close attention to the explicit wording in the rules can already clear up many questions.

For all other questions, you will hopefully find the necessary answers in the following sections. They covers many of the possible combinations between the 10 major expansions, sorted according to their numbering.

L’Abbé

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Removing the abbot does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Town hall tiles affect the abbot scoring when removed, since this tile does not count for monasteries or gardens. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you remove your abbot, you will score points for any vineyards adjacent to its monastery or garden. (01/2026)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : Does the wording in the rules implicitly include the scoring of the abbot when removed?

Réponse : Yes, you can score vineyards by removing your abbot.
We understand the wording "scoring a monastery/garden" as ANY scoring of a monastery/garden (counting surrounding tiles). (01/2026)

Extension 1

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a road with one or more inns, you score 2 points for each land tile of that road. As usual, you simply count the land tiles, not the road segments.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a city with one or more cathedrals, you score 3 points for each land tile of that city (and each coat of arms). As usual, you simply count the land tiles, not the city segments.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you place your large meeple as a traveler or knight, you may assign your builder to it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you place your large meeple as a farmer, you may assign your pig to it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You do not receive additional goods tokens for completing a city with a cathedral.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When orienting the dragon, it must face in the direction of a meeple, including large meeple.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon removes meeple of any type. This includes large meeple as well.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place your large meeple via the magic portal.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your large meeple as a watchman.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you score a road with an inn and with your messenger, you score the bonus for the inn as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you score a city with a cathedral and with your messenger, you score the bonus for the cathedral as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not use a mayor's ability to replace a large meeple. You can only replace standard meeples. (10/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not use a mayor's ability to replace a standard meeple for a large meeple. You can only replace a standard meeple for a standard meeple. (10/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not use a scarecrow's ability to replace it for a large meeple. You can only replace it for a standard meeple or lay it down. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If your large meeple was placed as a traveler, knight or farmer, you may nominate it as usual (when continuing its feature).
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Inns or cathedrals do not affect your tournament value.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your large meeple at a defense post.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may have to remove your large meeple as a consequence of an attack (as the large meeple is also considered a traveler, knight or monk).

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place your large meeple on a bridge as a traveler.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your large meeple on a castle as a maiden. When scoring your maiden, you score all knights in the playing area, including large meeple in cities.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If your large meeple was placed as a farmer, you may move it onto a barn.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Inns do not affect the value of bridges when scoring a road. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : Is this road worth 9 points (6 points for the road tiles due to the inn plus 3 points for the bridge)? That is, the inn does not affect the number of points the bridge is worth.

Réponse : Yes, 9 points is correct as the inn only changes the score of each road segment from 1 point to 2. (1/2026)

Example: Red completes this road with a bridge and an inn. The inn does not affect the scoring of the bridge, just the tiles. The player will score 6 points for the road tiles (3 tiles x (1 point per road tile + 1 point for the inn) = 3 x 2 points) plus 3 points for the bridge (1 bridge x 3 points).

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your large meeple as an acrobat.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, your large meeple is taken into account.

Extension 2

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur A double turn consists of two normal turns played back to back. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may remove meeple that have a pig or builder assigned to them. In this case you return your pig/builder as well.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign the fairy to a meeple that has already a pig or builder assigned to it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign a pig or builder to a traveler, knight or farmer that you placed via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The pig scoring does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may trigger a double turn by placing a tower tile as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign a pig or builder to a watchman.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign the builder to your mayor or messenger.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not trigger a double turn by placing your town hall tile.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you complete a city by placing your town hall tile, you receive the appropriate goods tokens as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur It is not possible to assign your pig to your scarecrow even if you place your scarecrow on a tile that is already directly adjacent to 4 other tiles (thus turning it into a farmer).

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may also nominate a traveler, knight, or farmer if your builder or pig is assigned to them.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not trigger a double turn by placing a prize tile. Only when placing the newly drawn land tile do you proceed as usual.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring the pigs, the fortress is considered a complete city.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign your builder to a meeple when placing it as a traveler on a bridge.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you build a bridge that continues a road on which your builder is already present, you do trigger the builder.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you place a tile in a way that it completes a city that consists of exactly 2 city segments and in which your builder is present, you do trigger the builder even if you then decide to build a castle on it (and move the remaining standard meeple onto the castle as a maiden).
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you move a farmer with an assigned pig onto the barn, you must return your pig to your supply.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The pig scoring considers cities with castles. (10/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Building a castle on a 2-tile city with a coat of arms does not trigger the pig scoring. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign your pig to your shepherd.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign your builder or pig to your ringmistress.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, your builder or pig do not score extra points.

Extension 3

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When orienting the dragon, the dragon must face in the direction of a meeple even if the fairy is assigned to it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you place a meeple in a straight line in front, behind, to the left or right of the dragon, you do not reorient the dragon as a reaction to that.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Each half of the double-sized tile acts as an individual tile, so you may place a meeple on one half without being affected by the dragon placed on the other (e.g. on the double-sized river lake). Likewise, a meeple with the fairy could be placed on one half without affecting the dragon on the other. (10/2025)
Interprétation de la communauté The fairy points are not part of the scoring for a completed feature. Scoring fairy points does not prevent you from moving the fairy if the conditions required for it are met. (1/2026)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : A city is occupied by 2 red meeples, and 1 blue meeple next to the fairy. Blue completes the city. Only Red scores for the city, and Blue scores the 3 points for the fairy. Can Blue assign the fairy to another of their meeples since the player did not score points for the city?

Réponse : Yes, Blue can move the fairy. (1/2026)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may remove watchmen on towers but not the towers themselves.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When orienting the dragon, consider watchmen as standing on the tile of their tower.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign the fairy to a watchman. Place it close to that watchman's tower. When that watchman is moved or removed, you remove the fairy as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a meeple as a watchman via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may also place a watchman on top of a tower if you placed a tile with a dragon hoard within that tower's range.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The watchman scoring does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur During a dragon movement, the dragon may move past town hall tiles.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may remove mayors, messengers and scarecrows (also scarecrows that turned into a farmer).
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign the fairy to your mayor, messenger or scarecrow.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You can activate the ability of a mayor immediately if you place it with a magic portal in a city on a land tile so that there is an adjacent tile on all 4 sides of it. (10/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You can activate an ability of a scarecrow immediately if you place it with a magic portal in a field on a land tile so that there is an adjacent tile on all 4 sides of it. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may not remove the crown, although it is made of gold.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may not remove emblems on statues.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When the dragon removes your nominated meeple, you return the corresponding emblem to your supply.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place meeple on tiles with a statue on it (prize tiles) via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you won a prize and have a prize tile in front of you, you draw a land tile as usual. If that land tile depicts a dragon symbol, you resolve it even before you place your prize tile.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur During a dragon movement, the dragon may move over the fortress (the two fortress tiles). However, the dragon may not remove meeple, nor catapults from defense posts.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When orienting the dragon, the dragon does not have to face in the direction of any meeple at defense posts.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a meeple at a defense post via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign the fairy to a meeple at a defense post.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you placed a meeple with a magic portal, you can also add a meeple to the corresponding defense post. (10/2025)

>> Bridges

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur During a dragon movement, the dragon may move past bridges and remove meeple on bridges but it does not remove bridges.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place a bridge on a tile with a dragon hoard if the usual rules apply.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place a meeple onto a bridge via the magic portal according to the usual rules. However, you may not place a meeple onto a bridge if that bridge stands on a tile with a dragon hoard.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign the fairy to a meeple on a bridge.

>> Castles

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur During a dragon movement, the dragon may move past castles but may not remove maidens on castles, nor castles. The dragon protects the maiden from knightly admirers.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may build a castle (and place a maiden accordingly) even if it overlaps a tile with a dragon hoard.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you build a castle and a standard meeple with an assigned fairy is already in the corresponding city, you remove the fairy and place it next to the playing area. Move the meeple onto the newly placed castle as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign the fairy to a maiden.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a meeple onto a castle via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The maiden scoring does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

>> Barns

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur During a dragon movement, the dragon may move past barns but may not remove farmers on barns, nor barns. The farmer is hiding in the barn.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may build a barn (and move a farmer onto it accordingly) even if it overlaps a tile with a dragon hoard.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you build a barn and move a farmer with an assigned fairy onto it, you remove the fairy and place it next to the playing area.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not assign the fairy to a farmer on a barn.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a meeple onto a barn via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The barn scoring does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may remove shepherds. If your shepherd is removed, you must return all flock tokens that were placed next to him to the bag.
Note: This does not affect any other flock tokens on that field if present.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign the fairy to your shepherd.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place your shepherd via the magic portal according to the usual rules (you must grow his flock immediately after).
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The scoring of shepherds and their flock does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The dragon may remove ringmistresses but may not remove the Big Top or performance tokens.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may assign the fairy to an acrobat even if it stands on top of an acrobat pyramid. In order to assign the fairy to your acrobat you might have to rearrange the pyramid so your meeple stands on the bottom. Then, place the fairy next to it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur During a dragon movement, if the dragon enters a tile with several acrobats, one of which is protected by the fairy, the fairy itself and the corresponding acrobat are not removed. However, all other acrobats on this tile are removed.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place a standard meeple on any acrobat site via the magic portal.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place your ringmistress via the magic portal according to the usual rules.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The scoring of acrobats does not trigger the fairy bonus. (10/2025)

Extension 4

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place a watchman on top of a tower if you placed your town hall tile within that tower's range.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your mayor, messenger or scarecrow as a watchman.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a watchman on top of a tower as a consequence of placing a prize tile within that tower's range.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur After nominating a meeple as a consequence of continuing its feature in 1. Placement d’une tuile, you may place another meeple as a watchman in 2. Pose d’un meeple as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The tournament tile counts as 6 adjacent land tiles, which must be taken into account regarding the range of the towers.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you won a prize and have a prize tile in front of you, you draw a land tile as usual. If that land tile depicts a thief symbol, you resolve it even before you place your prize tile.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Each fortress tile counts as 6 adjacent land tiles, which must be taken into account regarding the range of the towers.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When placing a tower tile with a tower floor, you may also build a castle (if appropriate) in the same turn.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may build a building and place a watchman in the same turn. Even if you build a castle and move a meeple from underneath onto it, you may still place a watchman as usual.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your shepherd on a tower.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, watchmen on towers are taken into account.

Extension 5

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Mayors are only called to a crisis meeting when a town hall tile is placed in 1. Placement d’une tuile. Later in the game you may place your mayor on a tile that is adjacent to a town hall tile without having to return it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you placed your land tile so that there is an adjacent tile on all 4 sides of it, you may place your mayor on it in 2. Pose d’un meeple and immediately activate his ability. Then, return your mayor as usual.
The same applies to your scarecrow. If you placed your scarecrow adjacent to 4 other tiles, you may immediately activate one of its abilities or you must return it as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The game ends when no player is able to place another tile in their turn, including their town hall tile. Skip players if necessary.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur A scarecrow standing in a field is not a farmer, so it does not score points for a field at the end of the game. (09/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Two mayors occupying a completed city will score for it as usual, as they share the majority with a strength of 0. (10/2025)

>> Emblems and nominations

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not nominate your mayor, messenger or scarecrow. However, you may nominate your scarecrow if it already turned into a farmer.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not nominate a meeple as a consequence of placing your town hall tile.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you replace a nominated meeple by activating the mayor's ability, you must return the corresponding emblem to its respective supply.

>> Town hall tiles and tournaments

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Town hall tiles do not count towards tournament values (not even in the field tournament). However, if the 8 tiles adjacent to your nominated farmer include town hall tiles, your tournament value still increases by the number of the potential 16 land tiles surrounding them.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you won a prize and have a prize tile in front of you, before you place it, you draw a land tile as usual or you may decide to place your town hall tile instead. Either way, you must place the prize tile first.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you cannot draw a tile because the current tile stack is empty, you may resolve the tournament or place your town hall tile instead. If you do not place your town hall tile, you must resolve a tournament as usual.

>> Game end

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The game ends when no player is able to place another tile in their turn, including their town hall tile. Skip players if necessary. If you not only have your town hall tile but also a prize tile in front of you, you must place the prize tile before you place your town hall tile. When you place your prize tile, you must also place your town hall tile if you still have it.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your mayor, messenger or scarecrow at a defense post.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a meeple at a defense post as a consequence of placing your mayor, messenger or scarecrow, nor as a consequence of turning your scarecrow into a farmer.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not remove your mayor, messenger or scarecrow as a consequence of an attack.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place a meeple at a defense post when you move a messenger to a new road or city after scoring. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not build a castle on a city that touches one or more town hall tiles even if that city consists of exactly 2 city segments.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your mayor on a castle, nor build a castle on a city that is occupied by your mayor or messenger.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place your messenger on a bridge. Also your messenger may move along bridges as they are part of the road.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may move your scarecrow onto a barn if it already was turned into a farmer or actually is turned into a farmer in the same turn.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring your maiden you do not score mayors or messengers.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you activated a scarecrow and replaced it by a standard meeple as a farmer, you may move the farmer onto a barn on the same turn. (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your mayor, messenger or scarecrow as an acrobat.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, mayors, messengers and scarecrows are taken into account.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Acrobat sites and circus sites count as junctions with regard to your messenger's movement.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not use a mayor's ability to replace a ringmistress. You can only replace standard meeples. (10/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not use a mayor's ability to replace a standard meeple for a ringmistress. You can only replace a standard meeple for a standard meeple. (10/2025)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not use a scarecrow's ability to replace it for a ringmistress. You can only replace it for a standard meeple or lay it down. (10/2025)

Extension 6

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you play with the mini-expansion La Rivière La Rivière, you place the crown on its predetermined starting space on the tournament tile before you place the tournament tile itself. When you finally place the tournament tile, you simply move the crown with it.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur After nominating a meeple as a consequence of continuing its feature in 1. Placement d’une tuile, you may place a meeple in 2. Pose d’un meeple as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur A meeple can only receive one emblem (i. e. it can be nominated only once for a tournament and have a single tournament value). (10/2025)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you remove a nominated meeple as a consequence of an attack, return the corresponding emblem to its respective supply.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you won a prize and have a prize tile in front of you, you draw a land tile as usual. If that land tile depicts a siege symbol, you resolve it even before you place your prize tile.

>> Emblems and nominations

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may nominate a traveler on a road by continuing that road with a bridge.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may nominate a traveler on a bridge.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When you move a nominated farmer onto a barn, you must return the corresponding emblem to your supply.

>> Tournament value

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Each land tile with a bridge that continues a road with your nominated meeple on it increases your road tournament value by 1 (just as a tile with a road does).
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Castles or barns do not increase any tournament value.

>> Prize tiles and buildings

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not build a castle or barn as a consequence of placing a prize tile. However, you may make use of its features when placing another tile afterwards to meet the appropriate conditions.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not nominate your shepherd.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not grow your shepherd's flock, nor herd the flock as a consequence of placing a prize tile. Only when placing the newly drawn land tile do you proceed as usual.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not nominate your ringmistress.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, nominated meeples are taken into account as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you won a prize and have a prize tile in front of you, you draw a land tile as usual. If that land tile depicts a circus site, you resolve 1. Placement d’une tuile as usual. Only in 3. Évaluation des zones do you resolve the circus site (as stated in the rules).

Extension 7

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Broken city walls as depicted on the fortress tiles and other tiles of this expansion do not alter the scoring of those cities.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not place a standard meeple at the defense post as a consequence of placing a maiden.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not remove a maiden as a consequence of an attack.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may remove a traveler on a bridge as a consequence of an attack.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not place a standard meeple at the defense post as a consequence of placing your shepherd.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not remove your shepherd as a consequence of an attack.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not place a standard meeple at the defense post as a consequence of placing your ringmistress.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You must not remove your ringmistress as a consequence of an attack.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, meeples placed at defense posts are ignored and not scored.

Extension 8

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may build a building and place a meeple in the same turn. Even if you build a castle and move a meeple from the city underneath onto it, you may still place a meeple as usual.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur A meeple that is considered a traveler on a road is also considered a traveler on a bridge.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your shepherd onto a barn (the shepherd is not a farmer).

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When your ringmistress lies on a field, she is not considered a farmer during the game but only in the final scoring. Thus, you may not place her on a barn.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place a bridge on a tile with a circus site or acrobat site. Bridges do not stand in the way of other figures. If figures would physically collide, just place them in a way that they all fit on the land tile.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may place your ringmistress on a bridge.
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, meeple on bridges are taken into account. However, maidens or farmers on barns do not score points. They are inside their building and cannot see the performance.

Extension 9

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If your shepherd is moved or removed for any reason, you must return all flock tokens that were placed next to him to the bag.
Note: This does not affect any other flock tokens on that field if present.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When scoring a performance token, your shepherd meeple is taken into account.

Extension 10

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When your ringmistress lies on a field in the final scoring, she is considered a farmer. She is not considered a farmer, traveler, knight or monk during the game.

Interprétation de la communauté You may place a meeple onto a bridge using a flying machine according to the usual rules. However, you may not place a meeple onto a bridge if that bridge stands on a tile with a dragon hoard.

>> Castles

Interprétation de la communauté You may not place a meeple onto a castle using a flying machine.

>> Barns

Interprétation de la communauté You may not place a meeple onto a barn using a flying machine.

Interprétation de la communauté You may not place your shepherd using a flying machine.

Interprétation de la communauté You may place a standard meeple on any acrobat site using a flying machine.
Interprétation de la communauté You may not place your ringmistress using a flying machine.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur You may not place your abbot using a flying machine.

Mini #2

Interprétation de la communauté Most messages require you to choose a meeple with a certain role, so not all meeples are allowed for them:

Notes:
  • You may score a farmer in a barn.
  • A standing scarecrow cannot score for a field.
  • A ringmistress will be scored as a traveler, knight, monk or farmer at the end of the game.

Interprétation de la communauté The scoring for Messages 1, 2 and 3 only considers those points related to the feature. No bonus associated to any meeples placed on the feature are taken into consideration, since the focus of this message is scoring the feature. Those bonus points for meeples would be scored when the feature is properly scored.
Interprétation de la communauté Message 3 may apply to all features considered proper monasteries and gardens:

Interprétation de la communauté Message 4: The placement of an extra tile follows a normal turn with all its phases. The player may also receive an additional message.
As in a normal turn, players may decide to use a tile in their supply instead of drawing a new one, such as:

Interprétation de la communauté Message 6: You will consider the number of your knights in cities: normal meeples, large meeple, guard meeples, phantom. Their strength (majority votes) is irrelevant. So, the large meeple is counted as only 1 knight. [4]
Interprétation de la communauté Message 7: You will consider the number of your farmers in fields: normal meeples, large meeple, lying scarecrow, guard meeples, phantom. Their strength (majority votes) is irrelevant. So, the large meeple is counted as only 1 farmer.
Interprétation de la communauté Message 8: Any bonus points associated to the meeple being scored before removed will be scored as if at the end of the game, such as the fairy 3-point scoring bonus (Ext. 3 - Dragon & Fée Ext. 3 - Dragon & Fée) or the ringmaster bonus (Ext. 10 - Cirque & Artistes Ext. 10 - Cirque & Artistes).

Interprétation de la communauté Interactions with messages:

  • Messages 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8: The large meeple can be chosen for these messages.
  • Messages 6 and 7: The large meeple is counted as only 1 knight or farmer.

Interprétation de la communauté Messages are received after 3. Évaluation des zones, considering all the scorings taken place during a player's turn. Note that, during a double turn granted by the builder, you may receive one message on each turn conforming the double turn.
Interprétation de la communauté If you play with the builder, it's possible to perform 3 turns or even 4 turns in a row.

  • Scenario 1: You get Message 4 right before the double turn, so you only may perform 3 turns in a row.
Sequence: Turn 1 (builder moved next to tile stack) + (Message 4 received) - Extra turn 1 for Message 4 + (you recover builder) - Turn 2 (double turn for Turn 1)
  • Scenario 2: You get Message 4 at the end of the double turn, so you may perform 3 or 4 turns in a row.
Sequence: Turn 1 (builder moved next to tile stack) + (you recover builder) - Turn 2 (double turn for Turn 1) + (Message 4 received) - Extra turn 1 for Message 4 (may generate double turn) - optional Extra turn 2 (double turn for Extra turn 1)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : Let's assume a player places a tile that extends and completes a road with their builder. As a result, the player gains an extra turn and also receives a message due to the scoring of the road. The player receives Message 4 - Perform an extra turn.
Is the turn granted by Message 4 played first while the builder stays aside until the turn granted by the builder is about to start?

Réponse : Yes, the builder stays at the stacks during the turn gained from the message. So, only a total of 3 turns in a row is possible. (2/2026)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : Let's assume a player places a tile that extends but does not complete a road with their builder (Turn #1). As a result, the player gains an extra turn and recovers their builder. During the extra turn the player places a meeple and the builder in a city on the tile just placed and completes the previous road (Turn #2). Due to the scoring of the road the player receives Message 4 - Perform an extra turn. Now, the player places a new tile that extends and completes the city with their builder (Turn #3).
Does the player receive a 4th turn in a row? [5]

Réponse : Yes, in this case, the player can have 4 turns in a row. (2/2026)

Mini #3

Interprétation de la communauté A road with branches (due for example to a roundabout) may be connected to multiple ferries. Extending the road would allow you to move all those ferries directly connected to it, no matter the distance from the tile just placed. In order to move a ferry, what really matters is that you can reach it without passing through another ferry. Therefore, a branched road may have several ferries that can be moved.

You may find roundabouts and other branched roads in various expansions:

Notes:

  • The roundabout in Les Quatre Saisons : L’Automne Les Quatre Saisons : L’Automne has some leaves separating one of the branches, so it does not work as a continuous branched road.
  • The open T-junction on Les Agroglyphes I Les Agroglyphes I separates the roads, so it does not work as a continuous branched road.
Example: a) You place the tile with a roundabout. As usual, you may move ferries ❶ and ❷. None of them is moved in this case.
b) In a later turn, you place this tile and extend the branched road. Following the road from the tile just placed, you meet ferries ❶ and ❷ directly connected to the road, so both of them can be moved. In this case, the two ferries are at the same distance from the tile just placed, but this distance is irrelevant and could be any.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The lakes in Ext. 1 – Auberges & Cathédrales Ext. 1 – Auberges & Cathédrales do not interact with the ferry lakes. Roads that have a ferry but no inn are still only worth 1 point per tile.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Repositioning a ferry to extend a road that your builder occupies does not grant you a double turn. You must actually continue that road in 1. Placement d’une tuile in order to trigger the double turn.

Interprétation de la communauté Placing an town hall tile may close a road end but not extend it, so it does not allow a player to reposition a ferry. [7]

Interprétation de la communauté Extending a road with a bridge allows a player to reposition a ferry.

Interprétation de la communauté Placing an abbey may close a road end but not extend it, so it does not allow a player to reposition a ferry. [8]

Interprétation de la communauté Extending a road with a bridge allows a player to reposition a ferry.

Mini #4

Interprétation de la communauté In general, any gold ingots on tiles of a completed feature will be distributed while the feature is being scored. Depending on the feature, the gold ingots involved may differ:

Interprétation de la communauté When scoring your abbot, you only receive gold ingots if his monastery or garden is completed.

Interprétation de la communauté A gold ingot on a town hall cannot be collected by an adjacent completed monastery or garden.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur When a castle is completed, the owner can lay claim to gold ingots in the 6-tile vicinity of the castle: the 2 tiles upon which the castle is built, the 2 tiles to its left, and the 2 tiles to its right. The owner of the castle does not necessarily have the rights to gold associated with the feature that caused completion of the castle (unless that gold ingot is also within the castle's vicinity or the castle owner also has a majority in the primary feature). (6/2013)

Mini #5

Interprétation de la communauté The mage considers the number of actual tiles in the feature. It does not consider any tile count modifiers:

  • Dutch churches (Églises des Pays-Bas Églises des Pays-Bas): segments on Dutch churches are not counted multiple times if connected to the same road.
  • German cathedrals (Cathédrales d’Allemagne Cathédrales d’Allemagne): segments on German cathedrals are not counted multiple times if connected to the same road.
  • Scoring tiles (Les Géomètres Les Géomètres): affecting the tile count for roads (Highway) or cities (Bad Neighborhood) are not considered to compute the mage bonus.

Interprétation de la communauté The witch penalty only affects the worth of the feature associated with its tiles and coats of arms:

The witch will not affect any points associated to bonuses applied to the feature:

Interprétation de la communauté When scoring a road with an inn or a city with a cathedral that also has the witch, the feature's points are calculated taking into account the inn or cathedral and then cut in half. [9]

Interprétation de la communauté The magic figures are not eaten by the dragon, since they are neutral figures. The dragon can only eat meeples.

Interprétation de la communauté A bridge per se does not count as a tile for the mage. A tile with a bridge will count for the mage bonus as any normal tile.
Interprétation de la communauté The bridge bonus is not affected by the witch.

Mini #6

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If the robber is on a space with a scoring meeple that moves backwards (such as when scoring negative points), the robber moves backwards with the scoring meeple, but the player who owns the robber does not lose points. This may happen when:

(3/2015; updated 3/2026)
Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The robber can receive points from The Wheel of Fortune or fairy scoring. (5/2013)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The robber can be placed beside either a standard score meeple or a courier. Thus, the robber can get points from either scoring figure, but only from the one on the same space as the robber. (5/2013)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : May you assign your robber to another player's courier? This was allowed in previous editions, but we don't know if this is still a valid option in C3.1.

Réponse : Yes, we didn't intend to change anything here. (03/2026)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur If you are the active player, and either your courier or your standard score meeple lands on a dark space as a result of your robber stealing points from another player, draw a message tile.
Interprétation de la communauté Robbers only consider the points scored during a turn until the end of 3. Évaluation des zones. Robbers ignore any points scored as extra actions after this point, such as message points.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : The turn sequence in Big Box 8 indicates that robbers are resolved before any message may be scored. Does this mean that points scored for messages are always ignored by robbers?

Réponse : Yes. (4/2026)

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Crop circle actions will allow you to choose the following meeple types on a feature to be added a meeple to the same feature (action A) or to be removed (action B):

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Crop circle action A will allow you to add the following meeple types to a feature:

Interprétation de la communauté Crop circles will allow you to choose (actions A and B), add (action A) and remove (action B) these meeple types if adopting C3.1 rules, but it is not fully official (03/2026):

Interprétation de la communauté Crop circles do not affect these meeples:

Interprétation de la communauté Crop circles do not affect these meeples if adopting C3.1 rules:

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur After the crop circle action, the active player should continue with any actions pending as part of their turn, such as removing a knight from a sieged city through a monastery (see Les Assiégeants - Les Cathares - Siège Les Assiégeants - Les Cathares - Siège) or performing the second part of a double turn (see Ext. 2 – Marchands & Bâtisseurs Ext. 2 – Marchands & Bâtisseurs). After all pending actions are performed, the next player's turn can proceed.

Interprétation de la communauté We consider the double turn as two normal turns back to back, so each turn may activate one crop circle action.

Clarification officielle de l’éditeur Question : If you are playing a double turn and you place one crop circle tile on each turn, do you perform the crop circle action at the end of each turn as usual?

Réponse : Yes, you activate both. (4/2026)

  1. Clarification officielle de l’éditeur The flier can land on features outside the city of Carcassonne (but not in the city itself) (Ext. 6 – Comte, Roi et Brigand Ext. 6 – Comte, Roi et Brigand) and outside the Wheel of Fortune (but not on the Wheel itself) (La Roue de la Fortune La Roue de la Fortune). The flier can also be deployed to the roads on the school tiles (L’École L’École). (1/2013)
  2. 2.0 2.1 Interprétation de la communauté This option is currently allowed but not fully confirmed by HiG. A final clarification on this matter is required. (2/2026)
  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 Interprétation de la communauté There is no official clarification stating whether this message should consider special monasteries (German monasteries, Dutch & Belgian monasteries and Japanese buildings) with a meeple placed as an abbot. The original rules were created before the special monasteries where released, so this case is not considered. However, the rules contain no limitations that would prevent players from considering special monasteries with a meeple placed as an abbot. In this case, we will apply the general rule provided by Georg Wild: "If an older expansion only mentions the word monk, this does not exclude meeples placed as an abbot on a German monastery." (7/2014) This will also apply to Japanese Buildings and Dutch & Belgian monasteries.

  • Interprétation de la communauté If using tiles from Exp. 3 and Exp. 8 in C2, note that abbots cannot be knights. Any meeples placed on a monastery within a city will be monks and will not be counted as knights. These are examples of monasteries within a city from Exp. 3 and Exp. 8 where a monk can be placed within a city:
  • Interprétation de la communauté The player meets the conditions for 4th turn in a row, but it would contravene the cap of 3 turns in a row instructed in the original rules.
  • Interprétation de la communauté Some other wonder tiles include 3-legged branched roads, but one or two of those legs are closed and cannot be extended. As a result, those road segments work like regular roads with only one or two open ends.
  • Interprétation de la communauté This clarification follows the same logic as the interaction of the town hall and the builder.
  • Interprétation de la communauté This clarification follows the same logic as the interaction of the abbey and the builder.
