Chanchito And Lady Carcas (Fan Expansion)
This expansion is inpired by the legend of Lady Carcas. In this case, Chanchito (a pig-shaped neutral figure) will fly from cities into fields and back granting points to the player with an acorn token.
This fan expansion celebrates the Advent Calendar Quiz 2024, where Chanchito met the Meeple Council. It also pays homage to the legend of Lady Carcas, so Chanchito will grant a bonus when jumping from cities into nearby fields.

The legend of Lady Carcas is as follows: [1]
- The legend takes place in the 8th century, during the wars between Christians and Muslims in the southwest of Europe. At the time, Carcassonne was under Saracen rule and Charlemagne's army was at the gates to reconquer the city for the Franks. A Saracen princess named Carcas ruled the Knights of the City after the death of her husband.
- The siege lasted for five years. Early in the sixth year, food and water were running out. Lady Carcas made an inventory of all remaining reserves. The villagers brought her a pig and a sack of wheat. She then had the idea to feed the wheat to the pig and then throw it from the highest tower of the city walls.
- Charlemagne lifted the siege, believing that the city had enough food to the point of wasting pigs fed with wheat. Overjoyed by the success of her plan, Lady Carcas decided to sound all the bells in the city. One of Charlemagne's men then exclaimed: "Carcas sonne!" (which means "Carcas rings"). Hence the name of the city.
This expansion is inpired by this legend, where Chanchito will fly gracefully from cities into filds and back granting points to the player with an acorn. We use an acorn instead of wheat, since Chanchito finds it tastier.

Rules
Preparation
Place Chanchito and the acorn token next to the scoreboard.
Gameplay
1. Placing a tile
Placing Chanchito
If you place a tile that extends (but does not complete) a city with at least one of your meeples (placed in a previous turn), you may place Chanchito in this city. It could be by the scoreboard or in a different city.
If Chanchito is moving from another city, the player with the acorn token (see below) at the beginning of this turn will score bonus points. The player will choose one of the fields bordering on the city and Chanchito will jump to this field in remembrance of Lady Carcas’s subterfuge. Then Chachito will grant the player as many points as the field would be worth at the end of the game. Finally, Chanchito will move to the new city.
Note: Chanchito grants the bonus to the last player who extended the uncompleted city before moving away.
Getting the acorn
If you moved Chanchito or you just extended the city with Chanchito without completing it (no matter the player(s) occupying in the city, if any), you will take the accorn token and place it in your supply, if you didn’t have it already. This way you will collect a great treat to keep Chanchito well fed and happy.
- Red places the highlighted tile and extends a city with one of their meeples. Since the city stays uncompleted, the player decides to move Chanchito to this city. Chanchito was placed in another city, so the player with the acorn will receive a bonus. The following actions will take place:
- Step 1: Blue then moves Chanchito to the field above the city and scores 3 points for the field (1 completed city x 3 points).
- Step 2: After the bonus scoring, Red moves Chanchito to the city just extended.
- Step 3: Red takes the acorn token and places it in their supply.
2. Placing a meeple
After placing a tile, you may place a meeple as usual.
3. Scoring a feature
The Currier figure and a letter symbol does not affect scoring of finished features.
If you completed a city with Chanchito, the city is scored as usual.
Once the scoring is completed, the player with the accorn token will choose one of the fields bordering on the completed city. Chanchito will jump to this field in remembrance of Lady Carcas’s subterfuge. As a result Chachito will grant the player as many points as the field would be worth at the end of the game.
After the bonus scoring, both Chanchito and the acorn token will be placed next to the scoreboard after scoring. Finally, Chanchito will enjoy the best treat ever while waiting for a new visit to a city!
Note:
- Chanchito grants the bonus to the last player who extended the city before it was completed.
- The city just completed is considered for the field scoring as well as any other completed city in the chosen field.
Red also has the acorn, so the following actions will take place:
- Step 1. Red moves Chanchito to the field below the city and scores 3 points for the field (1 completed city x 3 points).
- Step 2: After the bonus scoring, Red removes Chanchito and places next to the scoreboard.
- Step 3: Red takes the acorn token and places it by the scoreboard as well.
Final Scoring
Chanchito will not grant points at the end of the game.
