Informació general i comentaris

Fondes i catedrals was updated and re-released by HiG for the third edition, known as C3.1 for short, in 2025. This edition includes more detailed graphics than previous versions and cities with clipped buildings.
This expansion includes 24 tiles, and one of them is a river tile. It also introduces several new elements:
- Large meeples, more powerful than standard meeples
- Inns, which grant extra points to roads
- Cathedrals, which grant extra points to cities
- A meeple set in pink for a 6th player.
- Score tiles as an aid to keep track of scorings above 50 points.
| Expansion background
This expansion differs from the third edition version, known as C3 for short, only released as part of This expansion was previously released by Hans im Glück for the second edition, known as C2 for short, in 2015. And it was originally released for the first edition, known as C1 for short, in 2002.
These original versions include 18 tiles, instead of 24, and no river tiles. They also had a different end-game scoring for inns and cathedrals. Short roads were handled differently as well. |

Preparació
Preparació addicional
Cada jugador agafa el seguidor gros del seu color.
Lay aside the 6 score tiles with 50/100. These help to track your score. Place a score tile in front of you whenever you reach the number of points shown. For example, when you reach or exceed 50 points, place a score tile with the 50 side facing up in front of you; when you reach or exceed 100 points, flip the score tile over to the 100 side. [3]
If you are playing with the mini-expansion
El riu, shuffle the new river tile into the usual river tiles.
Shuffle the rest of the new land tiles into the other land tiles.
Each new game element is explained in relation to the 3 actions:
- 1. Col·locar una peça de territori
- 2. Posar un seguidor
- 3. Puntuar un element
Si una acció no s'explica detalladament, s'apliquen les regles bàsiques.
Inns and cathedrals
3. Puntuar un element
|
Scoring a road with an inn
If one of your roads with one or more inns is completed, you score 2 points per road tile instead of the usual 1 point. |

|
Scoring a city with a cathedral
If one of your cities containing one or more cathedrals is completed, you score 3 points per city tile and per coat of arms instead of the usual 2 points. |
Puntuació final
Important: If a road with an inn or a city with a cathedral is not completed by the end of the game, you score 1 point per tile and coat of arms as usual. [4]
The large meeple
3. Puntuar un element
When determining the majority in a feature, the large meeple counts as 2 standard meeples (it has a strength of 2).

Puntuació final
Durant el recompte final, s'apliquen les mateixes regles dels seguidors grossos.

Blue has 2 standard meeples there, too.
This means that neither of you has the single majority in this field (both players share the majority), so you both score the points (3 points for the completed city).
Peces de territori especials
|
This corner separates the 2 field segments from each other. |
| The monastery is a closed end for both roads. |
|
The intersection is a closed end for all 3 roads. The inn counts for the roads heading to the left and right, but not for the road heading down. |
|
This is not a closed end for any road. Instead, the road splits into 4 directions. All open ends must be closed to complete this road. |
|
The intersection is a closed end for all 4 roads. The two short roads to the city are already completed. You may place a meeple on them to score 1 point. [5] |

If you place your large meeple as a traveler or knight, you may assign your builder to it.
If you place your large meeple as a farmer, you may assign your pig to it.
When orienting the dragon, it must face in the direction of a meeple, including large meeple.
The dragon removes meeple of any type. This includes large meeple as well.
You may place your large meeple via the magic portal.
When you score a road with an inn and with your messenger, you score the bonus for the inn as usual.
When you score a city with a cathedral and with your messenger, you score the bonus for the cathedral as usual.

Inns do not affect the value of bridges when scoring a road. (10/2025)
Pregunta: Is this road worth 9 points (6 points for the road tiles due to the inn plus 3 points for the bridge)? That is, the inn does not affect the number of points the bridge is worth.
Resposta: Yes, 9 points is correct as the inn only changes the score of each road segment from 1 point to 2. (1/2026)

You may not place your large meeple as an acrobat.
When scoring a performance token, your large meeple is taken into account.

- ↑ Score tiles also known as points tiles in previous editions.
- ↑ Standard meeples are also known as normal meeples in previous editions.
- ↑ This example is an extension of the wording included in Bulgarian rules provided by Fantasmagoria.

Prior to this expansion revision in 2025, if you did not complete a road with an inn or a city with a cathedral by the end of the game, you would score 0 points for the feature. This old scoring for inns and cathedrals is still present in the first release of some publishers who didn't include this rules change in their printed rulebooks of the standalone version. For example, this is the case of Giochi Uniti (Italy) and Lineart (Romania). Devir (Spain, Portugal, Latin America) did not update the final scoring rules or did it in a misleading way: the rules in Spanish have not been updated, and the rules in Portuguese only updated the main text but not the Quick Overview section.
However, the printed rulebooks in
Big Box 8 include the updated rules.
- ↑ Prior to this expansion revision, the short roads could be neither occupied nor scored.
- ↑ This tile was printed in low resolution by mistake in the first print of
Big Box 8 for all publishers.
