Vinyes i ovelles
In this expansion for Carcassonne, animals and vineyards enliven the landscape. Let your shepherd herd geese and grow his flock of sheep to push for points. But don't risk too much, because when a wolf appears, your sheep will make a run for it.
Informació general i comentaris

Vinyes i ovelles was released by HiG for the third edition, known as C3.1 for short, in 2025. This edition includes more detailed graphics than previous versions and cities with clipped buildings.
It includes 19 land tiles, one of them a river tile. All in all, this expansion introduces the following new elements:
- Shepherds, a new type of meeple that grows and herds flocks for points.
- Sheep and Wolf tokens, that you draw from a bag. Sheep will grow your flock but wolves will scare them away, losing their points.
- Vineyards, featured on tiles. They grant nearby monasteries additional points.
- Geese, featured on tiles. They grant nearby shepherds additional points for their flock.
| Context de l'expansió
This expansion is a revised version of Vinyes i ovelles released for the second edition, known as C2 for short, in 2018. And it was originally released for the first edition, known as C1 for short, in 2014. The original versions were slightly different, including 18 land tiles, the same 18 sheep and wolf tokens and a cloth bag. The tile distribution was quite similar but with some variations, and some features were on different tiles. No geese were included, but there were hills (feature not present in the new version). Shepherds (considered a special figure), sheep and wolf tokens worked largely in the same way. Vineyards did not affect gardens. |

Preparació
Preparació addicional
Hand each player the shepherd of their color. Put all the flock and wolf tokens into the cloth bag.
If you are playing with the mini-expansion
El riu, shuffle the new river tile into the usual river tiles.
Shuffle the rest of the new land tiles into the other land tiles.
Each new game element is explained in relation to the 3 actions:
- 1. Col·locar una peça de territori
- 2. Posar un seguidor
- 3. Puntuar un element
Si una acció no s'explica detalladament, s'apliquen les regles bàsiques.
El pastor
2. Posar un seguidor
| Instead of a standard meeple, you may place your shepherd meeple on a field on the tile you just placed. You may place the shepherd on a field that is already occupied by another meeple, but not by another shepherd. After placing your shepherd, you must immediately grow his flock (see Growing the flock). |
Important: You may not place a farmer on a field with a shepherd.
Note: If the wolf chases away your sheep in 1. Col·locar una peça de territori (more on this later), you may still place your shepherd in 2. Posar un seguidor.
Growing the flock
Randomly draw 1 token from the cloth bag.
|
|
Important: If, during the game, your shepherd’s field connects with the fields of other shepherds and a wolf token is drawn, it affects all shepherds on this field. Every player involved returns their shepherd to their supply and returns the corresponding flock tokens to the cloth bag.
Note: Even if you have just placed your shepherd and draw a wolf token, you must return your shepherd.
1. Col·locar una peça de territori
In later turns, each time you place a land tile that continues your shepherd's field, you may grow his flock of sheep (see Growing the flock). Place newly drawn flock tokens next to your shepherd as usual.

If you do not want to grow your shepherd’s flock, you must herd the flock in 3. Puntuar un element instead (see Herding the flock).
Important: If your shepherd's field is fully enclosed by roads, cities, etc. after placing your land tile, you must herd his flock without first growing it. This also applies if the field was already enclosed at the start of your turn. [1]
3. Puntuar un element
Herding the flock
Count all the sheep on the flock tokens on your shepherd’s field. You score points according to their total number. Return all scored flock tokens to the cloth bag and return your shepherd to your supply.

Important: If a field is occupied by several shepherds, all sheep on that field are considered one flock. When you herd the flock, you and all participants each score the points for all sheep on this field. Majorities do not matter for this. Every player involved returns their shepherd to their supply and returns the corresponding flock tokens to the cloth bag.
Puntuació final
In the final scoring, you do not score points for sheep.
The geese
3. Puntuar un element
|
Tiles with geese score additional points when you herd the flock (see Herding the flock). In addition to the points for sheep, you score 1 point for each tile with geese that is directly or diagonally adjacent to the tile with your shepherd and 1 point if the tile itself shows geese. Note: The number of geese on a tile has no significance. |

Important: Only the active player scores points for geese. If other players participate when you herd the flock, they do not score points for geese.
Puntuació final
In the final scoring, you do not score points for geese.
The vineyard
3. Puntuar un element
| Vineyards are scored when you score a monastery or a garden with either a monk or an abbot. In addition to the points for the monastery or garden, you score 3 points for each vineyard that is directly or diagonally adjacent to the scored monastery or garden. |

Additionally, you score 2 x 3 = 6 points for the 2 adjacent vineyards.
In a later turn, Blue scores the garden with their abbot once completed. The player will receive the usual 9 points and 3 additional points for the diagonally adjacent vineyard on the left.
Puntuació final
In the final scoring, you do not score points for vineyards.
Peces de territori especials
| Some roads end in the middle of the field. |
| Both roads end in the village. |
| The field segments to the left and right of the 2 cities are separated. |
| The 2 cities at the top and bottom of this tile are separate. You may place another tile with a city left to it. This would connect all 3 segments to form a single city. |
| Exception: If you place a tile with an identical edge to the left of this tile, the 2 cities at the top and bottom remain separate. |

Note: This does not affect any other flock tokens on that field if present.
You may assign the fairy to your shepherd.
You may place your shepherd via the magic portal according to the usual rules (you must grow his flock immediately after).
You must not grow your shepherd's flock, nor herd the flock as a consequence of placing a prize tile. Only when placing the newly drawn land tile do you proceed as usual.
You must not remove your shepherd as a consequence of an attack.
Pregunta: Does the wording in the rules implicitly include the scoring of the abbot when removed?
Resposta: Yes, you can score vineyards by removing your abbot.
We understand the wording "scoring a monastery/garden" as ANY scoring of a monastery/garden (counting surrounding tiles). (01/2026)
