  • 6 new land tiles featuring the vestiges of the Roman settlement of Italica.

Rules

Preparation

Mix the six tiles with the other tiles being used for the game.

Gameplay

1. Placing a tile

Whenever you draw a tile, place it normally.

2. Placing a meeple

When placing an amphitheatre tile, you may place your abbot or a regular meeple onto the amphitheatre as though it were an ordinary monastery.

OR you may place a regular meeple lying down as a gladiator. The gladiator may be activated by completely surrounding the amphitheatre tile, the same as a monastery tile. When activating a gladiator, stand him up on the tile.

3. Scoring a feature

Whenever any player scores while a gladiator is activated, the owner of the gladiator has three chances to 'conquer' the scoring player's meeple and steal that score for themselves. If the owner of the gladiator does not wish to steal the score, they rotate the gladiator to the next position (i.e. from standing to sideways, or from sideways to lying down). If the owner of the gladiator has passed twice (i.e. gladiator has gone back to lying down), they must accept the third score. When the gladiator steals a score, the gladiator is returned to its owner's supply.

If multiple features are being scored simultaneously, the player who triggered the scoring determines the scoring order.

Final Scoring

Each incomplete amphitheatre is worth 1 point plus 1 point per adjacent tile, just like a monastery.
