Rules
Preparation
Shuffle the new landscape tiles with those from the basic game and stack them normally.
At the beginning of the game, each player draws one random flower token, which determines the color of flowers associated with that player for the duration of the game.
- In a 2-4 player game, tokens are drawn from a set of 4 different tokens.
- In a 5-8 player game, tokens are drawn from two identical sets of 4 tokens, so several players may draw the same token.
Each player keeps their flower token visible in front of them.
Each player adds the windmill of their color to their supply.
Donkey is placed on starting tile.
Gameplay
Bushes
1. Placing a tile
Placing a tile with bushes
Bushes appear next to roads that run very close to the tile edge.
They act as a barriers between fields and can also terminate roads.
- A tile with with bushes may be placed so that the bushes connects to another tile’s road, the bushes then serve as the end of that road.
- Bushes may be placed against a field.
- The bushes may also connect directly to another bushes on an adjacent tile.
When two bushes edges touch, they divide the field.
Flowers
The flowers play a role in phase 3. Scoring a feature. Phases 1. Placing a tile and 2. Placing a meeple are not affected by them.
3. Scoring a feature
Scoring a feature on a tile with flowers
A tile may display flowers beneath or beside roads, cities, or monasteries; this does not limit which features the flowers are associated with.
During scoring, each flower group on a tile is considered to belong to all features on that tile except fields, which are scored during final scoring, regardless of the flowers position.
- If a player has at least one follower on the scored feature and that feature contains flowers matching their flower token, they receive +3 points for each group of matching flowers present on that feature.
- These bonus points are awarded even if the player does not have the majority in the feature.
Thus, if an opponent completes and scores a structure where you also have a meeple, you still receive the flower bonus if the flowers match your color.
Flowers during final scoring
Unfinished features at the end of the game still grant flower bonuses if they contain matching flowers.
For fields scored at the end of the game for farmers, flowers must be within the boundaries of that specific farm to count, providing +3 points per group of matching flowers.
The blue player, having the majority, scores 6 points for the farm, and you score 12 points for four groups of white flowers.
You score 3 points for the shared farm, while black scores 3 points for the farm and an additional 3 points for one group of orange flowers.
Donkey
Donkey is a neutral figure that can move across the landscape and temporarily prevent features from being completed.
At the beginning of the game, place donkey figure on the starting tile.
Donkey belongs to no player and is treated as a neutral figure.
1. Placing a tile
Donkey influences the game by blocking completion of features located on its current tile.
Any roads, cities, or other features that are present on the tile occupied by donkey cannot be completed while donkey remains there.
These features may still be extended by placing new tiles, for example, adding a new city segment or road continuation.
Donkey does not affect fields, as fields are never completed.
Donkey does not block tile placement, only the completion of features.
If donkey occupies tile with a monastery, garden, or other self-contained feature, that feature cannot be scored while it remains on that tile.
2. Placing a donkey
On your turn, if you do not place a meeple, other figure or perform any retrieval action, you may move the donkey instead.
The movement is not limited by adjacency or distance, donkey can be moved to any tile already placed on the board.
The donkey may share a tile with other special figures, tokens, or meeples without restriction.
Windmill
The windmill is a special figure that belongs to each player.
2. Placing a windmill
Instead of placing a meeple, you may choose to place your windmill on any field area of that tile.
The field may already contain one or more meeples or figures, including those belonging to other players.
3. Scoring a windmill
Windmill is considered completed when the area surrounding it is fully developed in the following pattern:
Two tiles directly above, below, to the left, and to the right of the windmill’s tile must be placed, forming a plus-shaped area two tiles wide in each cardinal direction.
When a Windmill is completed:
- The owner of the Windmill immediately scores 9 points.
- In addition, if there is flower group on the tile with the windmill, and/or any of the tiles within its area, the player receives the flower bonus points (+3 per matching flower group).
After scoring, the Windmill is returned to the player’s supply and may be placed again on a later turn.
Windmill during final scoring
If the game ends before a Windmill is completed:
- The player scores 1 point for each tile currently placed within the windmill’s two-tile range (including the windmill tile itself).
- If any of those tiles contain flowers matching the player’s flower token, the player also gains +3 points per matching flower group, as usual.
Marketplace
Unlike standard road junction, Marketplace divide and connect roads simultaneously, it separate individual roads for ownership/scoring purposes but do not end any of them until the entire marketplace road network is completed.
2. Placing a tile
3. Scoring a marketplace road network
When all roads connected to a Marketplace are completed, the entire Marketplace network is now complete (i.e. all road branches linked through it are closed at both ends).
Each road connected to that Marketplace is scored separately, following normal rules.
After all individual roads are scored, players receive the Marketplace Road Network bonus:
- For each completed road in the network, every player with a follower on any road of that network scores additional points equal to the number of tiles forming the other completed roads in the network (excluding their own).
- Only the tile count is used, so no flowers, other bonuses apply to this part of the scoring.
Standard roads:
• Blue scores 5 points (or 6 points when playing with The Wells) for the road, and 3 points for orange flowers.
• Red scores 3 points for the road.
Marketplace Road Network bonus:
• You score 5 points.
• Blue scores 3 points.
A road that is part of the market road network is considered complete if, starting from one market, it ends at an intersection, bushes, or another marketplace.
Standard roads:
• Yellow scores 2 points for the road and 3 points for one group of purple flowers.
• Blue scores 4 points for the road (5 points when playing with The Wells) and 6 points for two groups of white flowers.
Marketplace Road Network bonus:
• Yellow scores 2 + 4 = 6 points.
• Blue scores 2 + 2 + 3 = 7 points.
Standard roads:
• Blue scores 3 points for the road and 3 points for one group of white flowers.
• Red scores 3 points for the road and 3 points for one group of orange flowers.
Marketplace Road Network bonus:
• Blue scores 3 + 4 = 7 points.
• Red scores 3 points.
Marketplace road network during final scoring
Road forming incompleted Marketplace road networks at game end are scored as incomplete roads, no network bonus is applied.
