The 4 Seasons is a series of four mini expansions each one dedicated to a different season with individual illustrations. The Spring mini expansion contains 12 tiles featuring spring-themed motives. The Summer mini expansion contains 12 tiles featuring summer-themed motives. The Autumn mini expansion contains 12 tiles featuring autumn-themed motives. The Winter mini expansion contains 12 tiles featuring winter-themed motives. You can use these sets of tiles to simply expand the landscape with beautifully ornated tiles or as mini-expansions.
Spring has arrived in Carcassonne! Admire the gardens and flowers that are spreading across the fields!
Summer is finally here! Refresh yourself in the cool water -whether it's a lake, fountain or river! Let your meeple splash around and score extra points!
Autumn is harvest time! That‘s why we pay special attention to the farmhouses and stables in and around Carcassonne in autumn.
Winter, the cold season is beginning! In the freshly snow-covered landscape, highwaymen are also joining in the hustle and bustle of the white magic!

Gameplay
1. Placing a tile
If you draw a season tile, you place it according to the usual rules.
Note: When playing with The Winter, snow patches separate fields and roads.
Pytanie: When playing with The Winter, do the snow patches on the tiles separate fields?
Odpowiedź: The snow separates all fields. (5/2026)
2. Placing a meeple
You can place one of your meeple on the season tile according to the usual rules.
Note: When playing with The Winter, you may not place a meeple on the snowed field sections of its tiles.
Pytanie: When playing with The Winter, can you place a meeple on a snow patch?
Odpowiedź: You cannot place a meeple in the snow. (5/2026)
Statue tiles
You will find 1 statue tile in each of the The 4 Seasons series.
The following rule applies to all 4 statue tiles of The 4 Seasons:
If your tile is horizontally, vertically or diagonally adjacent to a statue tile of the 4 Seasons after being placed, you may place 2 meeples on this tile in different features.

When combining The Winter with the Winter Edition game, you may not place a meeple in the green field segments of these tiles. Only the snowed field segments are allowed.
Pytanie: So snow patches in The Winter cannot be occupied and they separate fields and roads in a regular game. Is this behavior the same if this mini is combined with the Winter Edition base game?
Odpowiedź: When you play with the Winter Edition, it’s the other way around. You can occupy the snow fields and the normal fields with grass separates them. (5/2026)
3. Scoring a feature
You now score points for garden and spring tiles that are horizontally, vertically or diagonally adjacent to the spring tile you have placed:
- For each garden you get 3 points
- For each spring tile you get 1 point
Note: The flowers and flowerbeds on the spring tiles, especially the flowerbeds around the monastery, do not count as a garden.
A garden always looks like this:

For water that is vertically, horizontally or diagonally adjacent to the summer tile you have placed, you now receive points.
For each tile that shows water and/or a water tower, you receive 2 points.
Note: You also score 2 points for a summer tile with water on it, if it's placed within the radius of the summer tile you have placed. If there is more than one water on a tile, you still get 2 points.
The summer tile just placed does not generate any points itself, even if it has water on it. Water can be depicted in different ways, e.g:

You can find water on tiles here, among other places: the river, the ferries, the drawbridges, the Ukraine tile, the castles in Germany, inns. Water wells in cities, at crossroads and on roads in general will not be considered.
Pytanie: Do water wells grant points when placing a summer tile? You may find them in cities and at crossroads.
Pytanie: When combining The Winter and The Summer, should we consider the tiles with snow as tiles with water?
Odpowiedź: No, ice or snow (frozen water) isn’t considered as water by The Summer. (4/2026)
For farmhouses and stables that are vertically, horizontally or diagonally adjacent to the autumn tile you have placed, you now receive points. You immediately receive 2 points for each farmhouse or stable.
Farmhouses and stables (cowshed, donkey stable or pigsty) always look like this:

For highwaymen and autumn tiles that are vertically, horizontally or diagonally adjacent to the winter tile you have placed, you immediately receive 2 points.
You receive no points for the winter tile you just placed.
Highwaymen look like this (there may be several variations of the symbol):

For highwaymen and wild animals that are vertically, horizontally or diagonally adjacent to the winter tile you have placed, you immediately receive 2 points.
Pytanie: A Winter tile grants a bonus for wild animals on adjacent Winter Edition tiles. Does this cover the 12 extra tiles in the Winter Edition base game?
Odpowiedź: Yes. (4/2026)
Pytanie: Does it also consider any wild animals on Winter Edition mini tiles such as Piernikowy ludzik - Edycja zimowa or Kręgi w zbożu - Edycja zimowa?
Odpowiedź: Yes, for the
Kręgi w zbożu - Edycja zimowa. No, for
Piernikowy ludzik - Edycja zimowa tiles, because it’s about wild animals (these tiles only feature Santa Claus's reindeers). (4/2026)

Placing 2 meeples
A tile adjacent to a statue allows you to place 0, 1 or 2 wooden meeples. This is one single action.
- If you only place one wooden meeple, you cannot perform any other action instead of placing the second wooden meeple. [9]
- If you only place one or two wooden meeples, you may use direct placement and even another placement mechanic available for one of the meeples: magic portal (
Rozszerzenie 3. - Księżniczka i Smok), flying machine (
Mini #1 - Maszyny latające), "Add Meeple" / "Place Meeple" (
Rozszerzenie Jubileuszowe).
The wooden meeples that can be placed on the tile placed adjacent to a statue are the following:
- Normalny podwładny (
Gra podstawowa) - Opat (Gra podstawowa -
Opat) - Duży podwładny (
Rozszerzenie 1. - Karczmy i katedry) - Wóz (
Rozszerzenie 5. - Opactwo i burmistrz) - Burmistrz (

Rozszerzenie 11. - Duchy, pałace i cmentarze)
Rozszerzenie 2. - Kupcy i Budowniczowie

If you place a wooden meeple on a tile adjacent to a statue, you cannot place a tower piece instead of placing a second wooden meeple.
Rozszerzenie 5. - Opactwo i burmistrz
Rozszerzenie 9. - Owce i wzgórza
Rozszerzenie 10. - Cyrk objazdowy
If you place a tile with an acrobat space adjacent to a statue, you cannot add two acrobats to the pyramid.
If you place a tile adjacent to an acrobat space and to a statue, you can only add one acrobat to the pyramid instead of placing wooden meeples on the tile just placed.
If you activate an "Add Meeple" symbol when placing a tile adjacent to a statue, you can use the action with one wooden meeple and place the other wooden meeple on the tile as usual.
If you place one or two wooden meeples on a tile adjacent to a statue, you may protect each of them individually.
Water tiles
All river tiles are considered water tiles.
- 12 river tiles (
Rzeka I) - 12 river tiles (
Rzeka II) - 17 river tiles (
Rzeka - Edycja Jubileuszowa) - 12 river tiles (
Rzeka C3) - 3 cut-n-play river tiles (
CutCassonne) - 2 river tiles (
Games Quarterly #11)
Each half of the double-sized river source tile counts as a separate water tile (
Rzeka - Edycja Jubileuszowa).
Pytanie: If a summer tile is placed adjacent to the double-sized tile with the river source, does it grant 2 points per half tile? If the answer is yes, the active player would score 6 points for the tile placement in this example.
Rozszerzenie 1. - Karczmy i katedry
Rozszerzenie 6. - Hrabia, Król i Rzeka
Rozszerzenie 8. - Mosty, zamki i bazary
